About this tool

The Image Cropper lets you upload an image, set a custom aspect ratio, and pan or zoom to frame the perfect crop. The final image is rendered in your browser and downloaded as a PNG — originals never leave your device.

How to use

  1. Drop an image into the workspace or click to upload.
  2. Pick an aspect ratio preset or enter custom dimensions in pixels.
  3. Pan and zoom the image until the crop frame covers what you want.
  4. Click Crop to render the selection as a new PNG.
  5. Download the cropped image or start again with a fresh photo.

Common use cases

  • Preparing a square avatar for social profiles.
  • Cropping a photo to a 16:9 thumbnail for YouTube.
  • Making a tight headshot from a wider portrait.
  • Trimming screenshots before pasting them into documentation.
  • Reframing a product photo for a landing page hero.

Frequently asked questions

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. Cropping runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent over the network.

What image formats are supported?

Any format your browser can decode: JPEG, PNG, WebP, and GIF (first frame). The output is always PNG to preserve transparency.

Will cropping reduce image quality?

The crop itself is lossless. However, if your source is JPEG, the data is already compressed before cropping.

Can I crop very large images?

Most phones and laptops handle images up to ~20 megapixels comfortably. Beyond that the browser may run out of memory.
