About this tool

The Character Counter measures characters, words, sentences, paragraphs, and estimated reading time. It also shows remaining characters for popular social network limits and supports mixed CJK text so Korean, Japanese, and Chinese writers get accurate counts.

How to use

  1. Paste or type your text into the editor.
  2. Watch the character, word, and sentence counters update live.
  3. Check the social-media limit panel to see how your text fits Twitter/X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and more.
  4. Use the transform buttons to change case, trim whitespace, or remove blank lines.
  5. Copy the processed text or clear the editor when you are done.

Common use cases

  • Trimming an X/Twitter post to fit under the character limit.
  • Measuring the length of a blog post before publishing.
  • Counting words for a writing assignment with a strict word budget.
  • Estimating reading time for a newsletter.
  • Comparing the density of two pieces of copy during editing.

Frequently asked questions

How are words counted for Korean or Japanese text?

Because CJK languages often skip spaces, the tool counts visible characters as the primary measure and falls back to whitespace-split words for mixed content.

Does it count emojis as one character?

Yes. The counter uses Unicode grapheme segmentation, so a single emoji — even compound ones — counts as one character.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. All counting happens in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

Can I see character density for a specific keyword?

Yes. Open the keyword density panel to see your top keywords and their frequency.
